Hoosier Mix Infield Dirt
Let's start with the basics, field dirt. The skinned areas of your field should consist of a sand and clay based dirt down to a depth of at least 4 inches.
We have a solution. When we got into this business we determined that we had to develop our own mix here in Indiana with native materials that could approximate the consistency of the best 60-40 field mixes on the market. That way it would be close enough so that the price of hauling could be kept at a minimum and more schools and clubs could afford it. We call our product Hoosier Mix and it's been used on fields all over the northern two thirds of Indiana with great success.
In 2016 we started processing the material in Walton by running the clay and silt through a hammer mill and screen. This makes for a softer, more consistent, practically stone free product. We've also found a mix closer to 65% Sand 35% Clay Silt doesn't harden quite as much in the hot sun.
Hoosier Mix
Hoosier Mix is a cost effective way to achieve a desired sand / clay / silt mix with local Indiana materials. We blend our Hoosier Mix to approximately 60 - 65% Sand and 40 - 35% clay / silt. It is light brown in color. It has been used over the past 8 years to completely build, rebuild or amend a number of fields across Indiana. It is porous enough to very effectively percolate water and firms up nicely as a playing surface. It also works well with Mulemix field conditioners. We can deliver Hoosier Mix at very competitive prices across a wide section of the state in either tri axel trucks or semi dump trailers depending on the field location.
